Hawkes Bay Must Dos!
Famed for its wineries and unspoilt coastline, you won't want to miss two major stops in the bay...
As the first city in the world to welcome the new day, you won't want to miss the epic sunrise from the beaches here as Gisborne. It also has a reputation for great food, wine and surfing, being unofficially known as the 'chardonnay capital'. Thankfully, there are lots of pre-planned wine trails and itineraries so that you don't have to worry about getting around or driving.
If you venture slightly further out of the city you will find plenty to keep you busy. Definitely worth the 45 minute drive is Rere Falls and Rere Rockslide. A completely natural rockslide created from the flow of the stream. Take a body board or a rubber ring and slide down until your heart is content. Then stop by the falls on the way back to admire this m span waterfall. When we visited in the middle of summer, the waterfall was not as full, but it was still beautiful none-the-less.
Another fantastic experience sure to take your fancy is Dive Tatapouri. Here, with expert guides, you can walk out onto the reef and get up close and personal with some stingray! Let them come and give you a hug & kiss!
Eastwoodhill Arboretum is also the national arboretum of New Zealand, where you will find 131ha of exotic and native trees with more than 25km of walking/hiking trails for all abilities.
The art-deco capital of New Zealand! You only need to take a stroll through the city to see why! After the devastating earthquake in 1931, that killed 260 people, they began rebuilding, reflecting the architectural styles of the times. If you go to the Art Deco Trust, you can grab yourself a map and take yourself on a self-guided tour around the town. Alternatively, you can take a guided tour.
A great place to find yourself would also be at the top of Bluff Hill. A lookout comprising stunning views of the bay. It involves some stairs (as usual!) but it can be done in sandals (or jandals) so I was able to prove. Although probably not the smartest footwear.
Before the upwards track, you will find Centennial Gardens and
